1. Masjid Raya Medan (the Great Mosque of Medan)
This mosque was built in 1906 as the part of the Maimoon Palace area. The Great Mosque of Medan is a mosque that has the special element of Morocco, Europe, and the Middle East.
The mosque tower there is the combination between the Egypt, Iran and Arab design. The Great Mosque of Medan is located in the Sisingamangaraja Street and it is designed by the JA Tingdeman. This mosque can accommodate up to 1500 people and it was also the symbol of the Deli Kingdom in the past.
2. The Sri Mariamman Temple
This temple is no longer used for religious activities. That is why; when you are there you can enjoy the beautiful architecture in that temple which the architecture is like the temple that is located in India and Sri Lanka.
This temple is also a home for the Hindu gods like the Ganesha, Wisnu, Shiva, Durga and also Murugan. You can take a lot of pictures there and you will get the beautiful picture with the magnificent architecture as your background.
3. Graha Maria Annai Velangkanni
Graha Maria Annai Velangkanni was built in 2001 and it is a church for the Catholic people. This destination is located in the Skura III Street, Tanjung Selamat – Medan. This building is so unique because it has the authentic Indo – Modul architecture style.
When you are there you will notice that this church is like a temple, shrine and even looks like a mosque dome. There, you can also see the Annai Velangkanni statue or Maria from the Velangkanni together wither son where that statue is 2 meters long. That statue was brought straightly from India that makes it is so unique and also beautiful.
4. The Gunung Timur Monastery
The Gunung Timur Monastery or the Wihara Gunung Timur is the biggest monastery in Medan with 5000 meters wide for the size.
This monastery is located in the Hang Tuan Street number 16. If you come at several occasions such as the Chinese New Year moment or the ancestral prayer, you can watch the fun and unique festival which is this festival is also so photogenic.
5. The Immanuel Church
The Immanuel Church of Gereja Immanuel in Bahasa Indonesia is the oldest church in Medan. This beautiful church is located in Diponegoro Street and it was built in 1921.
Until now, this church is still used by the Christian people to pray and this church can accommodate up to 500 people at the same time.
